One of the biggest changes that came from the pandemic was that FastPasses disappeared from the face of the planet. Many Disney fans were not happy about FastPasses going away from the park but due to physical distancing they had to use every piece of the queue possible which then eliminated space for a fast pass line in most attractions. Also FastPass actually tends to make the standby line even longer due to “evenly” distributing each line to get on the attraction. Lately the question “when are the FastPasses coming back?” has been buzzing around the internet and honestly I have no idea when they would bring them back and how.
Many people including myself think that the new system would be Disney implementing a virtual queue system rather than brining back Fastpasses. I like the idea of having a virtual queue for the attractions that have longer lines but I would hope it would be more organized than what they use for Rise of the Resistance over at Galaxy’s Edge because getting one of those can be a stressful way to start your day at 7am. I think the best way would to have three different virtual queue release times throughout the day for the most populated attractions so that guests have more opportunities to get on an attraction that is on their must do list.
The other rumor buzzing around is that Walt Disney World might adopt the MaxPass system from Disneyland California. Let me break down the MaxPass for those of you who aren’t familiar with the product. The MaxPass combines the FastPass system and unlimited PhotoPass for a whooping twenty dollars per day, per ticket. MaxPass is used on the app and allows you to book FastPasses while in the park instead of having to walk up to the physical FastPass distribution locations. Yes Disneyland still has distributing kiosk for FastPasses, I kind of miss running up to different attractions with my dad to get paper FastPasses but that will for sure never come back. I do believe that Walt Disney World will most likely implement a FastPass system that will have a cost attached, and knowing Walt Disney World it will be more than twenty dollars.
All in all, I think something needs to come back that allows guests to get on rides quicker. I do miss the excitement of planning out my FastPasses on the My Disney Experience app because it added an extra element of planning out my trip. I haven’t had many issues waiting in lines for attractions but I know many people have had issues fitting everything into their vacations, as a local I get extremely lucky to be able to go back into the park the next week and hit up which ever attractions I missed the week before. Some guests only have four days in the parks and are trying to fit it all in one trip, the FastPass system helped those families at least get onto three must do attractions without much of a wait since they will be waiting the rest of the day for other rides in the park. I really hope we see some kind of FastPass back in the parks before the year is over but I hope it wont be something too expensive that not everyone can afford (if it is a system like MaxPass).
